What can I study?
14-16 Courses
By negotiation with your school, students aged 14-16 may be able to access our marine skills courses at Entry Level and level 1.

Entry Level / Level 1
Diploma of Vocational Education (Marine Skills)
The ‘Dip Voc’ course gives students the chance to opt into a number of different vocational areas, as well as gaining vital English, Maths and ICT skills. There is a Marine Skills option, which would enable students to progress onto the Level 1 Marine Engineering course.

Level 1
Marine Engineering Diploma
This introductory course looks as a range of basic marine engineering topics, such as propulsion, navigation and maintenance, as well as offering some basic boat-building skills. Students will also study a marine-based project qualification. It is designed to give students a flavour of the industry and will generally enable students to progress onto Level 2 courses.

Level 2
BTEC Engineering (Mechanical and Electrical)
This is a general engineering course, which explores key engineering principles, using primarily the marine and automotive industries as its core.

Level 2
Certificate in Marine Engineering & Maintenance
This industry standard qualification gives students the opportunity to study some core engineering and maintenance units, focusing in particular on the needs of the marina industries. From this course, students may progress onto Level 3, or seek employment opportunities.

Level 3
Preparing for work in the Cruise Ship Industry
If you are looking to work in the cruise ship industry, this package of OCR Travel & Tourism and BTEC Performing Arts gives you the essential skills required to seek employment in this growing sector. You will also have the opportunity to gain industry-specific qualifications.

Level 3
BTEC Engineering – Diploma
This course is equivalent to two A-Levels and is ideal for those who are looking to either study engineering at university, or employment. Covering a range of general engineering units, such as Mechanical Systems and Engineering Design, the course has the marine and automotive engineering at is core.
You would also be expected to study at least one AS or A-Level in a related subjects, such as Maths, Physics, Applied Science or Graphics.
In the second year, students can take the Extended Project Qualification, developing their understanding of the marine sector in the process.

Level 3
Diploma in Marine Engineering & Maintenance
This industry standard qualification gives students the opportunity to study some core engineering and maintenance units in some depth, focusing in particular on the needs of the marina industry. From this course, students may progress onto Apprenticeships or seek employment opportunities.

How do I apply?
For full-time courses starting in January or September you will need to complete and submit a St Vincent College application form. You will then be called for interview.
